Davies Adds Name To Triple-Double List

Thelma Davies has been making history ever since her freshman season.

Now the Girard College junior adds her name to an exclusive list of Pennsylvania athletes who have won two events at the PIAA State Championships for three straight years. On Saturday at Shippensburg, Davies ran away with the AA state titles in the 100 meters (11.82) and 200 meters (24.05).

Domenic Perretta of Beaver Falls completed the triple two years ago, winning AA boys' titles in the 1,600 and 800 meters three years in a row from 2014-2016. Rochester's Lauryn Williams won AA girls' crowns in the 100 meters from 1999-2001. Davies broke Williams' 100 meter PIAA meet record in the 100 meters in 2016 and tied Williams' 200 meter PIAA meet record the same year.

However, Davies has one more season left in high school. Next year as a senior Davies can become the first athlete to win two events each in four years. Jahvel Hemphill, Madison Wiltrout, and Breana Gambrell won four PIAA titles in four years in the same event. Davies will look to double that.

Davies noted after the meet that she's been dealing with some injuries that redirected some of her meet goals this year to just focusing on getting wins. Next year, she'll aim to make even more history.
